Overall, it’s a great product, the only frustration that I had was the instructions are not very good and I had pieces and bolts which the instructions did not show but once I got it figured out it works great. I plugged into an existing garage 20 amp outlet and it works just fine.
The platform with the hydraulic cylinder goes on the right pushing towards the back of the unit. That was not clear on the instructions.
I recommended the lift to my brother-in law.
Some folks here say the directions are skimpy, they are but common sense prevales, Very simple to put together. Took me six hours for the first one and two hours for the second.
You can just reverse the ramp ends if you want to keep the motor out from the wall. Pretty simple, bolt pattern will allow that easily. no modifications are needed.
Do not buy this lift, customer service is terrible and oh yeah, IT DOESNT WORK.
- One person can do it but I did feel it the next day (I'm 6'2, 220lbs) Use a friend or engine-lift for track placement, your back will thank you later and I didn't have either available to me at the time.
- The parts are quality, I do wish the safety locking rails were a bit thicker, they bend easily.
- The lift is good for both storage and performing maintenance in my view. (I have a 3-car garage)
- You will need to be a little mechanically inclined because the instructions are weak. Youtube videos are okay, I used them to view teardown and that's about it.
- If your house is newer, I think it's okay to switch the 20amp breaker to 30amp for the plug without running new wires. I checked amps with both a car off and on the lift. It didn't draw too hard with my very heavy electric car on it. (I'm an Electrical Engineer) I'm not responsible if you don't re-run new wires :)
- Wider Cars, you will notice a little tire overhang of about an inch or two with zero modification.
- There isn't a guard to protect the hydraulic fitting on the outside of the lift and if having wider tires, watch to make sure it doesn't roll over the fitting. They could have made the hole for the fitting lower but then the locking rails would be in the way.
- Leaks will/may be detected after you place the car on the lift and apply pressure to the lines. be sure to check the tightness of the hydraulic fittings underside the ramps, don't assume they are fully tight from the factory. I had to quickly think, take the locking rails apart to get the the back of the fitting to snug it tight.
- The system calls for 3 gallons of hydraulic or transmission fluid, get 3.5 gallons because the lines suck some fluid into the system. If you get a 5-gallon bucket, that is great to do top-offs when the fluid starts breaking down a little.
- Important! If you want to get your lift closer to a wall at the left side of the garage driving inward, you'll need to have the motor on the opposite end. I did this to maximize space and was still able to tuck in a sport-motorcycle you can't see from the photo on the other side of the lower car. The ramps are meant to be opposite side of the motor assembly and I had to use a saws-all to modify one of the gorgeous ramps. The locking mechanism handle is slightly in the way of the ramp to drop completely down in the slot to hold it in place.
- I can get both cars in without the garage tracks being modified and I think this is mostly the case for lower-profiled cars. I will be installing the garage rails kit so I can open the garage door fully instead of halfway to slide in the bottom car. I did remove the mechanical garage lift and guide rail so I can lift any car to the 10'10" ceiling. I now lift the single-car garage door manually until I install the solution. Both SUV's fit easily without spacing issues through the double side door where that one is still motorized.
- Cheers to those who like to do things themselves! This was fun to do, and a great price. I may just do it again to make my 3-car garage a 5-car because I like to challenge my lady's patience to check if she still loves me :)
Don’t even think about unloading this yourself! This think is as heavy as a car.
One important point is to measure what the runway is going to fit onto and set the posts with the cross bar to that length, then check for square by measuring diagonally. Within a 1/2" and you will be fine.
Pro:
Pre-installed the cables
Fasteners were on most of the parts already
Everything was packaged up nicely
Delivery was a breeze
Seems to be manufactured well
Steel reservoir tank on hydraulic pump
Con:
Instructions are useless - written by someone who does not comprehend english very well. An example under storage (gave me a chuckle) "The machine should be stocked in the warehouse. If stocked outside, should do the anti-water things"
The post with the pump mount was a little tight to get the cross bar slide into and had to use a prybar to expand it so it would slide in. With the weight of the runways on it and some grease, its fine. Made assembly a challenge.
Its painted, not powder coated. If that's powder coat, they have found a way to put very little on.
Shorted me one of the lock washers for the runways. No big deal, I had some to replace it.
Took myself and a engine hoist two days to assemble lift. Sadly NO info came with the lift. Had to download from manufactures website. No missing parts. Works great.
The wheel kit is great, and allows me to easily move this monster around the room as needed. I am giddy with joy. In fact, I am ordering another today.
It's way too big to muscle off with a small forklift. Had to go to trucking depot and pick it up on a flatbed. It's packed in a shape about 16' long, 20" wide, and 3' tall. It's HEAVY. I had 4 men and a couple of six packs to assemble it, and it was fun.
Note that hardware is metric; Mine was missing a couple of nuts for the main cables but they were easily sourced. M20 standard thread. A great buy, and what a nice machine to have in the shop for a spoiled child and his toys.
-You'll also need to plug into a 30 amp circuit to avoid blowing circuit breakers.
-My son and I had this assembled in about 6 hours. The following morning I had to get the hydraulic fluid for the resivoir ($25 at NAPA for a 5 gallon bucket) and everything was good to go!
- while at NAPA get a can of white lithium grease and lube the inside of the columns where the slides are. My lift operates easily and quietly.
- I'm extremely happy with this lift. The serial number is 000000055, so there's not too many of them out there yet. Time will tell if this was a good purchase of not
